I had scheduled some more self-tuition with Alchemy and another couple of apps but honestly I’m a bit braindead from a bunch of stuff, not least all the information I’ve stuffed into my brain in the last 2 months for this. I wanted to write something.
So here’s a simple brain dump of an idea using some new recordings of me on the fiddle as raw material. In various chains, I put it through Reaktor’s Form, GRM Delays, GRM Reson, NI Choral, ChromaVerb, Pitch Shift, and layered on the basic but effective Vegan Violin Kontakt instrument I made in the early days of this course.

I’m not sure what it’s about. I don’t know what I’m saying with it. It’s nice though. It has a sense of ‘the lovely‘.
It feels ambient, ambiguous, hopeful, steady, and unhurried. I thought about putting a beat in it, or some hints of a cross-rhythm; there’s a pulsing feeling in one of the sounds that I’d like to bring out or emphasise somehow.
I like how the harmonies blend in and out of each other and maybe I could do more with that ‘mashup’ feeling.
It has a basic, forward-building structure, and the repetition of I-viii-IV gives it coherence, though perhaps it’s a bit too predictable by the end. Though there’s a safety, warmth and familiarity in that predictability. I think I’m after a bit more predictability in life, in general…
I like it, though I don’t have really strong feelings about it. Though I did go for a bit of a long run at the gym earlier today and I think it’s made me a bit spacey. I’m not objective. I’ll see what I think of it after a break.
